On his return to Iraq after graduating from the University of Westminster with an MA in Journalism in 2008, Laith began working as a journalist for an American Media company.
Previously, he worked for the BBC World Service and other BBC programmes as a freelance producer, as well as with Marie Colvin at the Sunday Times. Laith was married in 2012 to a Lecturer in History at Baghdad University.
