Zainab graduated in 2008 with a postgraduate degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from the University of Westminster. Her reason for having chosen this topic is due to her believing that communication is about much more than language.

After graduating, she returned to Iraq with the intention of taking up a career in teaching at university. She found that it was almost impossible to find such work and decided to accept an offer of employment from the USAID/Tijara project in Baghdad to work as an Executive Assistant. 

Zainab eventually became Assistant Procurement Manager until completion of the project early in 2013.

She is now working as a as a Procurement Manager on another USAID project entitled Tarabot. She lives with her husband and his parents, and has a 3-year old daughter named Reya.
